EDIT: Autumn outerwear 2017

Black Check Belted Robe Coat – River Island - £85.00
I’m surprised by how little I’ve seen of this trend. Monochrome prints a permanent fixture in every wardrobe, and this usually becomes increasingly visible towards the end of the year.
Adding a touch of sophistication to your outfits is rarely this effortless.
While the belt allows you to style your silhouette as you please, apply colour with caution, but under no circumstance risk adding another print.

Grey Duffle Coat – Miss Selfridge - £65.00
I’m a sucker for duffle coats, and based on how often I see these on campus, I’m clearly not the only one.
The faux fur collar and the bluish grey body gives it some real wintery vibes.
Grey coats are the perfect way for taming the bold autumnal colours you’re likely to be pairing it with.
Walking out in a screaming mustard sweater can feel pretty daring, but topping it with outerwear like this can turn even the biggest statement pieces into subtle pops of colour.

Millie Relaxed Coat – Topshop - £59.99
Relaxed blazer coats are by far my favourite.
This one is particularly great because of how well it holds its shape.
Relaxed outerwear can often risk drowning an outfit, but with such beautiful tailoring and delicately sloped shoulders, this piece is an exception.
With autumn wardrobes often full of dark muted tones, this will add a touch of light back into your style while complimenting the palette perfectly.

Mara Navy Puffer Jacket – PrettyLittleThing - £40.00
I’ll be honest, I’m usually not the biggest fan of puffer coats.
They can restrict your movement a little and the Michelin man look just isn’t always what I’m going for.
While navy isn’t a hugely popular colour this season, it does harmonise with the autumn palette beautifully.
This is actually high up on my PLT wish-list but probably will be until it sells out, because let’s be honest, wish-lists add up, and mines already tailing my rent.

Coat With Contrasting Collar – ZARA - £49.99
I’ve always been a bit hit and miss when it came to woolen coats like this.
The border between looking adorable and looking like an insulating mattress protector is so fine, though fortunately this piece manages to slide into the former.
For those that prefer to layer and see bulky coats as overkill, this coat is the one for you.
Not only does it’s simple colour scheme allow for it to work with everything, the loose fit and wide sleeves allow you to wear it with even the chunkiest of knits.

Khaki Faux Fur Trim Hooded Chevron Puffer Jacket – New Look - £39.99
Puffer coats are far more versatile than they are often credited for.
In terms of styling, they seem to work for those combining it with jeans and a jumper, while also looking awesome with sweatpants and sneakers.
Insulating by design, this coat is ideal for those 9ams where the sun hasn’t had enough time to defrost your campus yet.
Unlike many of the other here, it also offers a hood which while many will do anything to avoid wearing it, is going to come in really handy when it starts sleeting.
Just because the sky is weeping, doesn’t mean you have to be.

Grey Tie Belt Coat – Dorothy Perkins - £65.00
In terms of full body insulation, this style is about as good as it gets without investing in thermals or resorting to your dressing gown.

While a full-body puffer coat would naturally be a little more insulating, you’ll never find one that looks as good as this.
For those that might stop over at a friends’ house after a night out this autumn, at least you can rely on this to make your exit a little more graceful.
So it's officially Autumn, and as miserable as it is that the sun will now hibernate until next March, I won't pretend I'm not a little happy to see it go.
For me at least, Autumn is my favourite time of year when it comes to fashion.
Other than the obvious excitement that comes from getting to fill your wardrobe with burgundy, mustard, and khaki, it's the pieces themselves that really get me buzzed: chunky knits, check scarves, beanies and most important of all, coats.
As the season increasing demands for yet another new coat will have you swamped in choices, allow us to help you navigate the market.
